There are a number of free on-line storage options for students. Some act like a remote hard drive, others include your files with all your information.
Sending files to yourself on Gmail permits you to search for your files. You can access them anywhere. Files are scanned for viruses before they can be sent or used. Students should at least use Gmail to manage their files.
USB devices crippled our lab last school year. Students plug in their device, laden with viruses, into the computers. Often they ignore the threat warnings. Subsequently, the viruses are loaded on the computers, ready to infect the next user. In our courses, we do not need to use USB storage devices. When we are working with large files, students can store them locally on their computer.
